In this life changing story, Gary tells of his journey from drug and alcohol addiction, to homelessness, to desperation, to finding God, and beginning to follow Him…
Since the age of 12, I started taking drugs, drink and become enslaved to addiction and to sin. I lived a very worldly and sinful lifestyle, got involved in serious crimes and made and spent all the money I made through illegal activities. I lost everything, my money, my family, my partner and ended up homeless. I went to Christian rehab and at first used to mock the Christians and gave them a hard time. I just thought they were mad. The manager of the rehab used to have meetings with us in the mornings. He read to us the Word for Today and explained to us in a very simple and easy to understand way what he read. I heard this man preach the Gospel to us.
Sadly I had never heard the amazing message of God’s free salvation and His love for me before, until the age of 26, God used this man to draw alongside me and point me to His Son.
Ten years ago the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sins and for the first time I realized it was me who was mad, not the Christians. I realized for the first time that the Lord Jesus Christ took the punishment my sins deserve. On the Cross of Calvary, Jesus suffered, shed His precious blood and died for me.
I asked Jesus to forgive me, to have mercy on me, and to save me from my sins. Praise God He did. Since then, on a daily basis, I continue to read The Word for Today. It’s a big source of help and encouragement on my Christian journey.
I now serve the Lord among the homeless and those struggling with addictions, and I now preach the Gospel to others who need the same wonderful Saviour – Jesus. The Lord has restored to me good relationships with my family.

The giant you are fighting today is not bigger than the God who is living within you. Failing does not make you a failure...quitting does...not seeing beyond it does...not learning from it does...not growing stronger because of it does. You’re not unique, and you’re not alone – we all struggle on some level. Satan attacked Jesus three times in the wilderness, why? To keep Him from fulfilling His Father’s will on earth.
